Wind Generator Inverters
You need an inverter to change the DC from the wind turbine generator to 120 volt AC for the house. Depending on the type and size of inverter/wind system. The inverter can supply part of the load, all of it, or can sell it back to the utility company. It all depends on the wind system you have and the inverter. Outputs will change with ,turbulence, wind speed, generator size, and blade diameter.
An average wind speed of at least 8 mph is recommended for a battery charging system. At least 12 mph is best for selling inverters that will send power back to the grid. Most wind generators will begin producing power at 8 mph and will reach full output at 28 mph.
Air density will increase/decrease the output. Higher altitude and hot temps lowers air density, which will lower the power generated. Outputs will be reduced about 3% per 1000 feet above sea level.
Wind turbine generators should be at least 30' above nearby trees and buildings within a 300' radius. Consult your local regulations. Tilt-up towers elimate the need to climb the tower for maintenance. A wind generator, hydro-electric unit, and solar module unit can all be used to charge the same battery.
